The Young Queer Leaders (YQL) Summit was held at Macquarie University this weekend. GLBTQI students and young workers who are interested and or involved in leadership in business, the community and the arts attended a series of workshops and lectures at the event.
With the theme: Queering Up, the conference aimed to promote the social acceptance and upward social mobility of GLBTQI identifying people in corporate workplaces. Guest speakers at the event included Kate Wilson and Prof. Lucy Taska from Pinnacle Foundation Scholars, Tim Wilson from the Institute for Public Affairs and Dr. Wendell Rosevear from Stonewall Medical.
Macquarie University will also take part in a collaborative project with the National Library of Australia to document Australia’s gay and lesbian history. The first of its kind, the nation-wide study will explore the personal stories of volunteers born between 1940 and 1994. Interested individuals can find out more about the project or apply to participate in the recordings at www.australianlesbianandgaylifestories.org.au.
